Egypt has launched a new initiative aimed at increasing public access to mental health clinics and psychological support services across different governorates.
The programme focuses on expanding mental healthcare availability through public medical facilities while improving awareness around psychological wellbeing and early support services. Officials stated that the initiative seeks to make mental health services more accessible for wider segments of society, particularly in underserved areas.
According to health authorities, the plan includes strengthening psychiatric and psychological care units, increasing the availability of specialised clinics, and improving integration between mental healthcare and broader public health services.
The initiative also aims to support early diagnosis and treatment for mental health conditions through expanded outpatient services, awareness campaigns, and training programmes for healthcare professionals.
Officials noted that mental health has become an increasing priority within Egypt’s healthcare development plans, particularly following growing awareness around stress, anxiety, depression, and the importance of psychological support in daily life.
The programme forms part of wider efforts to modernise Egypt’s healthcare system and improve access to specialised medical services across the country.
Authorities added that expanding mental health support is expected to help reduce stigma around seeking treatment while encouraging earlier intervention and more accessible care options for patients and families.
