For The First Time, Women-Only Buses Hit Egypt’s Ring Road

Egypt has introduced women-only buses on the Ring Road for the first time as part of efforts to improve public transportation services and provide safer commuting options for female passengers.

The new service was launched through the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system operating along the Ring Road, with designated buses allocated specifically for women during daily transportation hours.

According to officials, the initiative aims to offer a more comfortable and secure commuting environment while supporting broader improvements to public transportation infrastructure across Greater Cairo.

Authorities stated that the women-only buses form part of wider transportation development plans focused on modernising transit systems, reducing congestion, and improving passenger experience on some of Egypt’s busiest routes.

The Ring Road BRT project is one of several major transportation initiatives currently under development, designed to connect key areas around Cairo through faster and more efficient public transit services.

Officials also noted that the introduction of dedicated buses responds to growing demand for transport solutions that improve accessibility and safety for women using public transportation networks.

The launch reflects Egypt’s ongoing investments in urban mobility projects, including monorails, metro expansions, electric transportation systems, and upgraded bus services aimed at supporting the country’s rapidly growing urban population.

The women-only buses are expected to begin operating across selected Ring Road routes as part of the initial implementation phase of the project.
