Egyptian-British actor Amir El Masry is set to star in the upcoming television adaptation of Metropolis, based on the internationally acclaimed Berlin Noir novels by author Philip Kerr.
The new series, currently in development for Apple TV+, follows the early story of detective Bernie Gunther in 1920s Berlin as he enters the city’s elite homicide division and investigates a series of dark criminal cases.
El Masry joins an international cast that includes Academy Award-winning actor Colin Firth alongside several global television and film stars. The project is being produced by Bad Wolf in collaboration with PlayTone and Studio Babelsberg.
The role marks another major international step for El Masry, whose career has continued to expand across British, American, and Middle Eastern productions. The actor previously gained international recognition for performances in Limbo, The Crown, and Industry, while also appearing in major film projects including Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.The adaptation of Metropolis forms part of Apple TV+’s growing slate of high-profile drama productions and is expected to bring Philip Kerr’s bestselling noir universe to a global audience.
