AstraZeneca Egypt, in partnership with Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population, has launched the “Healthy Heart Africa” programme in Egypt as part of wider efforts to strengthen prevention and early detection of non-communicable diseases.
The initiative focuses primarily on cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease, aiming to improve access to screening, diagnosis, and healthcare awareness across the country. The programme forms part of AstraZeneca’s larger health equity initiative operating in several African countries.
Originally launched in 2014, Healthy Heart Africa was created to support African healthcare systems in addressing the growing burden of heart and kidney diseases through early detection, medical training, and community awareness campaigns. Over the years, the programme has conducted millions of blood pressure screenings and trained thousands of healthcare workers across the continent.
According to officials, Egypt’s participation in the initiative will focus on expanding public awareness around cardiovascular and kidney health, improving early screening systems, supporting healthcare provider training, and integrating more digital healthcare solutions into patient management.
The collaboration also reflects Egypt’s broader efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare services and improve access to specialised medical care through partnerships between public institutions and private healthcare companies.
Health officials noted that non-communicable diseases remain among the leading health challenges across Africa, increasing the need for sustainable healthcare programmes focused on prevention, education, and earlier intervention.
The launch positions Egypt among the countries participating in Healthy Heart Africa’s continental expansion, which now includes several African nations as part of AstraZeneca’s long-term healthcare development strategy.
