Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population announced that more than one million government-funded medical treatment approvals were issued during the first quarter of 2026, with total support reaching approximately EGP 8.5 billion.
According to official figures, 1,044,845 treatment approvals were granted, benefiting around 922,675 citizens through public healthcare facilities across the country.
The programme covered a broad range of medical specialties, including oncology, neurology, orthopaedics, dialysis, vascular surgery, dermatology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, endocrinology, rehabilitation, hepatology, spinal surgery, and several other specialised treatment areas.
Officials stated that the initiative is designed to support eligible patients who require specialised healthcare services through state-funded medical treatment systems.
The ministry also highlighted the expansion of digital healthcare services within the programme, noting that 1,643 urgent medical cases were assessed remotely through video consultations, allowing doctors to provide clinical evaluations without requiring patients to travel.
Alongside treatment services, medical assessment programmes continued across multiple public service sectors. Around 71,900 people with disabilities underwent medical evaluations through 551 specialised committees as part of the Integrated Services Card programme.
Authorities also reported that 76,406 applicants were medically assessed for the Takaful and Karama social support programme, while an additional 7,729 individuals underwent evaluations related to eligibility for tax- and customs-exempt vehicles.
Officials noted that the expansion of treatment and assessment services reflects wider healthcare development efforts focused on improving accessibility, digital integration, and support systems within Egypt’s public healthcare sector.
