February 8 — Cairo: Global tourism experienced strong growth in 2025, highlighting the continued recovery and rising demand for international travel.
According to the latest figures released by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, international tourist arrivals worldwide increased by four percent compared to 2024.
Amid this global recovery, Egypt stood out as one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations, recording a substantial rise in both visitor numbers and tourism revenue.
Data from the World Tourism Barometer showed that Egypt achieved a 20 percent increase in international tourist arrivals during 2025. This placed Egypt among the top-performing destinations globally, alongside Brazil, which recorded a 37 percent increase, Morocco with 14 percent growth, and Seychelles with a 13 percent rise.
This strong performance reflects the effectiveness of Egypt’s tourism development strategies, improvements in its global image as a travel destination, and the expansion of direct and charter flight routes. It also highlights the diversification of Egypt’s tourism offerings, including cultural heritage tourism, coastal and beach travel, religious tourism, and medical tourism.
The results also indicate that global tourism is returning to normal growth patterns, approaching the average annual growth rate of approximately five percent observed between 2009 and 2019.
Africa Leads Global Tourism Recovery
The overall growth was supported by increasing international travel demand, improved performance in key tourism markets, gradual recovery across Asia-Pacific destinations, expanded airline connectivity, and eased visa requirements in many countries.
The United Nations Tourism Organization reported that Africa recorded the strongest regional growth in 2025, with international tourist arrivals reaching around 81 million visitors, representing an eight percent increase compared to the previous year.
North Africa achieved particularly strong results, posting an 11 percent increase in tourist arrivals, driven largely by the exceptional performance of Egypt and Morocco.
Egypt also ranked among the fastest-growing countries in terms of tourism revenue. Tourism income increased by 17 percent in local currency during 2025, demonstrating that growth in revenue in some cases exceeded the rise in visitor numbers. This indicates an increase in average tourist spending.
Despite the positive outlook, challenges remain, including geopolitical tensions, rising travel expenses, and inflation affecting tourism services.
Nevertheless, current trends suggest that global tourism—and Egypt’s tourism sector in particular—is continuing on a stable and sustainable growth path in the years ahead.
