Egyptian comedian and actor Ali Rabee is preparing to return to the theatre after an absence of nearly six years, while his participation in the Ramadan 2027 drama season remains undecided.
Rabee revealed that he has signed on for a new stage production expected to begin performances at the start of 2027. The actor has yet to disclose the title, cast or creative team behind the play, but described the project as part of a busy new phase in his career.
A Long-Awaited Return to the Stage
The new production will mark Rabee’s first major theatre return in around six years.
The stage holds particular significance in his career. Rabee became widely known through live comedy and later built a national following as one of the prominent faces of Masrah Masr, before establishing himself in Egyptian cinema and television.
According to his latest comments, preparations for the new play are already underway, with performances planned to begin early next year in Egypt. Further details are expected to be announced as production progresses.
What About Ramadan 2027?
Rabee’s television plans have generated some confusion in recent weeks.
In July, reports claimed he had agreed to headline a new 15-episode comedy series produced by Al Sabbah and written by Farouk Hashem and Mostafa Omar.
Rabee subsequently said that his new television project was still being written and would not compete in Ramadan 2027.
However, his more recent comments indicate that his position is not completely settled. Rabee said he is currently reading several scripts and has not yet made a final decision on whether he will appear during the Ramadan 2027 season.
That makes the safest current conclusion clear: Rabee has not officially confirmed a Ramadan 2027 series.
His First Ramadan Drama Since 2021?
If Rabee eventually chooses to participate, it would mark his return to Ramadan television after a lengthy absence.
His most recent Ramadan series was Ahsen Ab, which aired in 2021 and featured Sami Maghawry, Ahmed Fathy, Hagar Ahmed, Ahmed Gamal Said and Jihan Khalil alongside him.
Since then, Rabee has focused more heavily on cinema, appearing in a number of comedy projects while remaining away from the annual Ramadan television competition.
Several Film Projects Are Also in Development
The theatre comeback is not the only project currently surrounding Rabee.
He has also been linked to several upcoming films, including Saheb Fadl and Abu El Ezz, while another comedy project titled Welad El Asal is reportedly in development with Mohamed Anwar, Bayoumi Fouad and Caroline Azmy.
Rabee has nevertheless cautioned fans against believing every project attributed to him in the press, joking on social media about the number of films he has supposedly signed onto and saying he hopes some of the reports eventually turn out to be true.
A Busy New Chapter for Ali Rabee
What is confirmed for now is the theatre return.
After six years away from the stage, Rabee is preparing to reconnect with live audiences through a new production in Egypt at the beginning of 2027. At the same time, he continues to review television and film offers as he decides what his next screen projects will be.
Whether that next chapter includes Ramadan 2027 remains to be seen, but with a stage comeback already in motion and multiple projects under consideration, Ali Rabee appears set for one of his busiest periods in years.
