Egyptian squash star Hania El Hammamy has been named the PSA Female Player of the Season for 2025/26, following a landmark campaign that saw her rise to World No.1 and establish herself as the leading player on the women’s tour.
The award was presented during the PSA Awards dinner, where fellow Egyptian Mostafa Asal was named the men’s Player of the Season. Their recognition capped another successful year for Egyptian squash on the international stage.
A Career-Defining Season
El Hammamy enjoyed one of the strongest seasons of her career, winning seven titles and delivering consistently impressive performances across the PSA Squash Tour.
Her results throughout the campaign helped her reach the top of the women’s world rankings for the first time in November 2025, overtaking compatriot Nouran Gohar. The achievement marked a major milestone for the Egyptian athlete, who had spent several years competing among the sport’s elite.
El Hammamy began the season in dominant form, claiming the opening three major titles and building the momentum that eventually carried her to the World No.1 position.
Seven Titles Across the Campaign
Among El Hammamy’s standout achievements was her victory at the 2026 El Gouna International Squash Open in Egypt.
She defeated eight-time world champion Nour El Sherbini in a closely contested five-game final, securing the title after recovering from two games to one down. The victory further underlined her resilience and ability to perform under pressure against the strongest opponents on the tour.
Her success throughout the season brought her career total to 22 PSA titles, according to her official player profile.
Ending the Season with the PSA Tour Finals Title
El Hammamy concluded her campaign by winning the 2025/26 PSA Squash Tour Finals, defeating Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in the championship match.
The Egyptian secured the final in four games to win the tournament for the second time in her career. The victory provided a fitting end to a season defined by titles, consistency and her breakthrough at the top of the world rankings.
Egypt’s Latest World No.1
El Hammamy’s rise to World No.1 continued Egypt’s long-standing dominance of women’s squash.
She joined an elite group of Egyptian players to have occupied the top position, following figures such as Nour El Sherbini, Raneem El Welily and Nouran Gohar. Her promotion to the summit also reflected the consistency she had demonstrated across several seasons before finally securing the ranking in November 2025.
The Cairo-born player first joined the professional tour in 2014 and developed into one of the leading talents of her generation. Her 2025/26 campaign represented the clearest confirmation yet of her place at the forefront of the women’s game.
A Landmark Year for Hania El Hammamy
Being named PSA Female Player of the Season completes a remarkable year for El Hammamy, combining her first World No.1 ranking with seven tournament victories and the PSA Tour Finals crown.
At 25, the Egyptian star has already built an impressive collection of titles, but her latest award marks a new chapter in her career—one in which she is no longer simply challenging the world’s best, but setting the standard for the rest of the women’s tour.
