Egypt’s Cabinet has approved the extension of the country’s Sunday remote work policy throughout July 2026, continuing a measure initially introduced earlier this year as part of efforts to reduce energy consumption and ease pressure on the national electricity network.
The work-from-home arrangement applies to employees at designated government entities and public sector institutions whose duties do not require a physical presence in the workplace. Certain sectors and roles that rely on in-person operations will remain exempt from the measure.
The policy was first implemented in April as part of a broader energy-saving strategy introduced amid rising global energy prices and regional market disruptions. Alongside remote work, the government adopted additional measures aimed at optimizing electricity and fuel consumption.
By extending the scheme for another month, authorities aim to continue reducing energy demand during the summer period, when electricity consumption typically reaches its peak due to increased cooling needs across the country.
The Sunday remote work system marks the fourth consecutive month of the policy and reflects Egypt’s ongoing efforts to balance energy management with maintaining government services and business continuity during periods of heightened demand.
