Cairo’s Attaba Market Moves Forward with Second Phase of Redevelopment

Egyptian authorities are continuing redevelopment efforts in Cairo’s historic Attaba Market area with the launch of the second phase of the project aimed at reorganising one of the capital’s busiest commercial districts.

The redevelopment plan focuses on improving infrastructure, reducing overcrowding, upgrading public services, and reorganising street vendors and commercial spaces throughout the area.

According to officials, the new phase includes road improvements, utility upgrades, enhanced pedestrian movement, and the restoration of several surrounding urban elements to improve both accessibility and the overall appearance of the district.

Authorities stated that the project aims to preserve Attaba’s role as a major commercial hub while creating a more organised and safer environment for shop owners, street vendors, and visitors.

Attaba remains one of Cairo’s oldest and most active market areas, known for its high commercial activity, traditional shops, electronics stores, household goods markets, and dense daily foot traffic.

The redevelopment forms part of wider urban modernization plans targeting several historic and high-density districts across Cairo as authorities continue efforts to improve infrastructure and public spaces while balancing commercial activity and heritage preservation.

Officials also noted that coordination is ongoing with local businesses and vendors throughout implementation to minimise disruption during construction and redevelopment works.

The project reflects Egypt’s broader strategy to modernise urban areas and improve public services in central Cairo while maintaining the economic significance of long-established commercial districts.
