Al Ahly has officially granted Vodafone the naming rights to its long-awaited new stadium as part of a record-breaking four-year partnership that the club describes as the largest investment agreement in the history of Middle Eastern sport.
The agreement was unveiled during a high-profile ceremony at the Giza Pyramids, marking a major milestone in Al Ahly’s ambitious stadium project and commercial strategy. Under the deal, the club’s future home will officially be known as Vodafone Stadium, while Vodafone also becomes Al Ahly’s main shirt sponsor for the next four seasons. The partnership is valued at EGP 1.35 billion (approximately $26.6 million).
A Historic Naming Rights Agreement
The naming rights deal is the first of its kind in Egypt and among the most significant sports sponsorship agreements in the region.
Speaking during the announcement, Al Ahly President Mahmoud El Khatib described the partnership as a transformative step toward realizing the club’s long-held dream of owning a world-class stadium. He emphasized that the investment would provide substantial financial support for the project while opening a new chapter in the club’s commercial development.
The agreement also reflects a growing trend in global football, where major clubs secure long-term naming rights partnerships to help finance stadium construction and enhance commercial revenues.
More Than a Stadium Sponsor
Beyond branding the new stadium, Vodafone will play a central role in Al Ahly’s digital transformation.
According to the club, the partnership aims to create one of the region’s first smart football stadiums, integrating advanced technology into every stage of the fan experience. Planned features include digital ticketing, smart entry systems, improved connectivity, cashless services, and enhanced matchday experiences powered by Vodafone’s telecommunications infrastructure.
The collaboration is designed to extend beyond football, positioning the stadium as a year-round destination for sporting events, concerts, and entertainment.
The Dream of Al Ahly’s Permanent Home
Construction on Al Ahly’s new stadium officially began in February 2025 after the club unveiled the final design for what it calls the “Project of the Century.”
Located in Sheikh Zayed City, west of Cairo, the stadium will seat approximately 42,000 spectators and will serve as the centerpiece of a larger sports city development. The masterplan includes a sports hospital, museum, hotel, university, youth academy, retail areas, and entertainment facilities, creating a multi-purpose destination rather than a traditional football venue.
The stadium has been designed without an athletics track, bringing supporters closer to the pitch to create a more intense atmosphere on matchdays.
A New Era for Al Ahly
For decades, Al Ahly has played its home matches at venues including Cairo International Stadium and Al Ahly WE Al Salam Stadium while pursuing the dream of building its own permanent home.
The Vodafone partnership represents one of the biggest steps toward making that vision a reality. Beyond financing construction, it demonstrates the club’s intention to position itself among the world’s leading football institutions through long-term commercial partnerships and modern infrastructure.
Building the Future
The unveiling of Vodafone Stadium is more than a branding announcement—it signals the beginning of a new commercial era for Egyptian football.
As construction progresses over the coming years, the stadium is expected to become not only Al Ahly’s permanent home but also one of the country’s most technologically advanced sports venues. With record investment, cutting-edge facilities, and one of the region’s biggest sponsorship agreements behind it, Vodafone Stadium is set to become a landmark project for both Al Ahly and Egyptian sport.
