Egypt Brings Home 6 Medals From The World Calisthenics Championship

Egypt delivered a standout performance at the 2026 World Calisthenics Championship, winning six medals in Riga, Latvia, and marking one of the country’s strongest international results in the sport to date.

The championship took place from August 13 to 16, bringing together around 200 athletes from 52 countries. Egypt entered nine competitors, with six of them reaching the podium.

Two Gold Medals for Egypt

Egypt finished the event with two gold medals, three silvers and one bronze.

Ahmed Zaki claimed gold in the Veterans endurance competition, while Ashraf Adel won gold in the middleweight power category.

Their victories led a medal haul that highlighted Egypt’s growing strength in calisthenics and street workout on the international stage.

Three Silvers and a Bronze Complete the Medal Haul

The Egyptian team added three silver medals through Ahmed Essam, who finished second in Veterans freestyle, Mohamed Khaled in middleweight endurance, and Mostafa El Iraqi in lightweight endurance.

Mostafa Maher completed Egypt’s six-medal tally with bronze in the lightweight power competition.

That meant six of Egypt’s nine athletes returned home with medals, a success rate of roughly two-thirds of the squad.

Egypt Competes Against 52 Countries

The scale of the championship made the result particularly significant.

Around 200 athletes representing 52 countries competed across disciplines testing strength, endurance, freestyle ability and technical control. Egypt’s six medals placed the delegation among the competition’s standout performers.

Omar El Gebaly, a board member of the Egyptian Fitness and Street Workout Federation and head of the delegation, said the achievement was the result of years of training and development rather than a short preparation period before the championship.

A Major Milestone for Egyptian Calisthenics

Islam Kortam, president of the Egyptian Fitness and Street Workout Federation, described the result as the biggest achievement in the sport’s history in Egypt.

He said having six medalists from only nine participants showed how quickly calisthenics has developed locally, while also highlighting the federation’s ambition to expand participation and produce more athletes capable of competing internationally.

The sport has grown rapidly in Egypt in recent years, particularly among younger athletes attracted to bodyweight training, freestyle movement and outdoor street workout.

Sports Minister Congratulates the Team

Egyptian Youth and Sports Minister Gohar Nabil congratulated the national delegation following the championship.

He praised the athletes’ performances and said the six-medal result represented another addition to Egypt’s growing record of international sporting achievements. The minister also contacted El Gebaly directly to congratulate the team.

Egypt’s Growing Presence in Street Workout

Calisthenics differs from many traditional strength sports by relying heavily on bodyweight movements, with disciplines ranging from endurance and power to freestyle routines combining strength, control and creativity.

Egypt’s performance in Riga suggests the country is beginning to establish itself as a serious competitor in the sport.

With two golds, three silvers and one bronze, the 2026 World Championship gave Egypt one of its most successful calisthenics moments yet—and offered another sign that the local street workout scene is moving onto the global stage.
