Students using Egypt’s East Nile Monorail can now benefit from a 60% discount on subscription fares as part of new measures introduced for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The Ministry of Transport announced the discounted student subscriptions during an inspection tour of the East Nile Monorail, as authorities prepare for increased passenger demand with the start of the new school and university year.
60% Discount for Students
Under the new system, students can receive a 60% discount on East Nile Monorail subscription fares.
The same student discount also applies to Egypt’s Light Rail Transit, or LRT, giving students using either network a lower-cost option for daily travel during the academic year.
The discounted subscriptions took effect on September 16, 2026.
East Nile Monorail Services Increased
Alongside the student discount, the Ministry of Transport also ordered a reduction in the waiting time between East Nile Monorail trains.
Train intervals were cut from 12 minutes to 9 minutes starting September 14, increasing service frequency ahead of the expected rise in passenger numbers during the academic year.
The East Nile Monorail is scheduled to operate 142 trips per day, with services beginning at 6:00 AM from both Adala City and Cairo Stadium stations.
Where Students Can Get Monorail Subscriptions
Subscription offices are available at ticket counters across all East Nile Monorail stations, with passes sold throughout operating hours.
Students can also download subscription forms electronically before visiting subscription offices, helping reduce waiting times and simplify the application process.
Applicants are required to complete the student subscription form, provide recent photos and have the form approved by their school, university or educational institution before submitting it.
East Nile Monorail Route
The East Nile Monorail runs from Cairo Stadium in Nasr City to Adala City in the New Capital and includes 22 stations along the full route.
The line forms part of Egypt’s expanding electric public transportation network, connecting eastern Cairo with the New Capital while integrating with other mass-transit systems.
Lower Transport Costs for Students
The new discount is intended to make daily travel more affordable for school and university students who depend on public transportation.
With student subscriptions now discounted by 60% and trains running more frequently, the new measures are expected to make the East Nile Monorail a more accessible commuting option during the 2026/2027 academic year.
