Mohamed Abdel Wahab Birth Anniversary Month Marked with Free Public Access to His Museum

Cairo — March 9: The Cairo Opera House has announced free public access to the Mohamed Abdel Wahab Museum and the Museum of Musical Instruments at the Arab Music Institute in celebration of the birth anniversary of legendary Egyptian musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab.

The initiative continues the Opera House’s annual tradition of honoring the renowned composer, singer, and actor by opening both museums to visitors free of charge for six days, from March 9 to March 14, daily between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The Mohamed Abdel Wahab Museum is dedicated to preserving the legacy of one of the most influential figures in Arab music. The museum features a collection of the artist’s personal belongings, medals, and international awards, as well as rare photographs documenting various stages of his life and career. Visitors can also watch clips from the films in which he starred and access a full archive of his musical compositions and songs.

Alongside it, the Museum of Musical Instruments showcases a range of rare instruments from different musical traditions. The museum is divided into three main sections displaying wind, percussion, and string instruments, each accompanied by detailed descriptions explaining their history and use.

Among the unique items on display are the three-quarter-tone piano, the Japanese Koto, the Indian Sitar, the Santur, and a metal mandolin famously played by Abdel Wahab in the classic film Ghazal El Banat.

As part of the commemorative events, the Cairo Opera House will also host a series of Arab music concerts celebrating Abdel Wahab’s work, including the Wahabiat concert series, scheduled to take place on March 9 at the Arab Music Institute.
