Egypt Confirmed as Host of the 2027 African Games

February 27 — Cairo: Egypt has officially secured the right to host the 14th edition of the African Games in Cairo in 2027, following the signing of an agreement between the African Union and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Youth and Sports as part of ongoing preparations to organize one of the continent’s largest multi-sport events on Egyptian soil.

The agreement was signed by Ambassador Dr. Obaida Abdullah Abu Al-Abbas Al-Dandrawi, Egypt’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union. Representing the African Union, the agreement was signed by Ambassador Emma Tom-Amoah, Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development.

Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil stated that Egypt’s selection to host the 2027 African Games reflects the strong confidence the country enjoys at the continental level. He attributed this achievement to sustained political support for youth and sports development.

The minister also expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly for his continued support and oversight throughout the process of finalizing the agreement. He highlighted the coordination between key state institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Egyptians Abroad, and the Ministry of Defense.

According to the ministry, this collaboration demonstrates Egypt’s institutional readiness and its commitment to delivering a continental sporting event that reflects the country’s leadership role within Africa.
