Egypt Launches  “Inta El Hal” Campaign to Tackle Ramadan Overeating

Under the slogan “Inta El Hal” (“It Is in Your Hands”), the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population has launched a nationwide awareness campaign warning against the health risks linked to excessive eating and sugar consumption during Ramadan — with billboards now visible across major streets and highways throughout Egypt.

The campaign urges citizens to shop mindfully and avoid overindulging during iftar, reminding the public that overeating unhealthy foods can lead to serious long-term consequences.

“Buy only what you need during Ramadan, and remember that overeating unhealthy food leads to numerous diseases,” the ministry said in one of its messages displayed on outdoor advertisements and digital screens.

Another ad delivers a pointed reminder:

“The desserts you pay for today with your wallet may cost you your health tomorrow. Let’s cut back on sugar this Ramadan.”

During the holy month, many Egyptian households prepare elaborate spreads for family gatherings after more than 12 hours of fasting. While the tradition reflects generosity and celebration, health officials warn that sudden heavy meals — particularly those rich in sugar and fats — can increase the risk of diabetes, heart attacks, and digestive disorders.

Through “Inta El Hal,” now prominently featured on billboards and public advertising spaces nationwide, the ministry is placing responsibility directly in the hands of individuals — encouraging moderation, balanced meals, and smarter consumption habits to ensure a healthier Ramadan.
