Summer is officially entering its final days in Egypt, with the country preparing to welcome autumn on September 23, 2026 and a gradual shift toward cooler weather.
According to astronomical calculations, the autumn equinox will take place at approximately 3:05 AM Cairo time on Wednesday, September 23, marking the official end of astronomical summer in Egypt.
But anyone hoping to wake up to sweater weather may need to wait a little longer.
Weather and climate experts say the transition will be gradual, with daytime temperatures remaining relatively high during the opening weeks of autumn while cooler mornings, evenings and lower humidity begin making the change more noticeable.
When Does Summer 2026 End in Egypt?
Astronomical summer in Egypt began on June 21, 2026 and lasts approximately 93 days and 15 hours.
The season officially gives way to autumn on September 23, when the Northern Hemisphere reaches the autumn equinox.
The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics has said the astronomical start of autumn will occur shortly after 3 AM Cairo time.
Autumn will then continue for approximately 89 days and 20 hours, before winter officially begins on December 21, 2026.
Cooler Weather Is Coming — But Gradually
The end of summer does not mean Egypt’s hot weather disappears overnight.
Meteorological experts have stressed that the transition between summer and autumn is usually gradual.

The more noticeable improvement is expected during the early morning and nighttime hours, when temperatures begin to feel more comfortable.

Egyptian Meteorological Authority officials have said weather conditions are already beginning to improve during the early morning and evening hours, helped by increased wind activity and gradually declining humidity.

That does not necessarily mean dramatically lower maximum temperatures every day. Instead, factors including reduced humidity, stronger evening breezes and cooler nighttime temperatures can make the overall weather feel significantly more comfortable.
When Does Winter Start in Egypt?
Autumn should not be confused with winter.
Egypt’s winter season does not officially begin until December 21, 2026.
Between September and December, temperatures will generally trend downward, but autumn can still include warm and occasionally hot days.
By November and December, cooler nighttime temperatures become much more established across much of the country.
So while September 23 marks the end of summer, it is better understood as the beginning of a gradual three-month journey toward Egypt’s colder winter weather.
