Orange Egypt Launches New digital Line Activation and Facial Recognition Services

Orange Egypt has launched a new electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) system, allowing individuals and businesses to complete key mobile-line procedures digitally using national ID verification and facial recognition technology.

Announced on August 25, 2026, the new system enables customers to purchase, activate and manage Orange mobile lines without having to complete the entire process at a physical branch.

The launch also introduces what Orange describes as a first in Egypt for business customers, allowing companies to activate new corporate mobile lines electronically after verifying the identity of the person who will actually use each line.

Customers Can Activate New Lines Digitally

For individual customers, Orange’s new eKYC system allows the purchase and activation of new mobile lines through a fully digital process.

Identity verification is completed using the customer’s national ID card together with facial recognition technology, reducing the need for traditional in-store procedures and allowing users to move from requesting a line to activating it through a more streamlined digital journey.

The system forms part of Orange Egypt’s wider push toward digital customer services and greater self-service options across its mobile business.

First Digital Corporate Line Activation Using Facial Recognition

One of the most significant elements of the launch is aimed at enterprise and business customers.

Companies can now activate new Orange lines electronically while confirming the identity of the actual employee or individual assigned to each number.

The verification process uses the user’s national ID alongside facial recognition, giving companies a digital method of linking corporate mobile numbers with their real users while complying with regulatory requirements.

Orange says it is the first operator in Egypt to offer electronic activation of corporate lines using this type of identity verification.

Customers Can Check Which Orange Numbers Are Registered to Them

The new services go beyond purchasing and activating lines.

Orange customers can also view all Orange mobile numbers registered under their national ID, providing greater visibility over lines officially associated with their identity.

Users can then submit an electronic request to deactivate numbers they no longer want or recognize, with identity again confirmed through national ID information and facial recognition.

The feature could be particularly useful in addressing cases where customers have old or unwanted lines still registered under their names.

Supporting Tighter Mobile-Line Registration Rules

Orange’s new platform comes as Egypt continues introducing tighter controls around mobile-line registration and the verification of actual users.

Earlier in August, the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) said Egypt was preparing to introduce biometric facial verification for mobile services, allowing customers to carry out more procedures electronically through their smartphones.

The regulator has said the broader objective is to improve the accuracy of subscriber information and reduce problems involving mobile lines registered under people’s identities without their knowledge.

Orange said its new system supports these regulatory efforts while also focusing on convenience, security and the protection of customer data.

Orange Egypt Expands Its Digital Services

The eKYC launch represents another step in Orange Egypt’s wider digital transformation strategy.

The operator has already expanded digital access to services such as eSIM management, with eligible customers able to carry out certain eSIM procedures through Orange’s mobile application as well as at company stores.

By adding fully digital identity verification to more mobile-line procedures, Orange is moving toward an experience in which customers can complete an increasing number of traditionally branch-based transactions through their phones.

For both individuals and businesses, the new system is designed to make mobile-line activation faster and more convenient while giving customers greater control over the numbers registered in their names.
