Renewing a vehicle license in Egypt is becoming faster and more convenient as the country expands its network of self-service traffic kiosks, allowing motorists to complete several licensing procedures without waiting in traditional traffic-unit queues.
The kiosks form part of the Ministry of Interior’s wider digital transformation of traffic services and are already operating at a number of malls, clubs and public locations.
According to Egypt’s official Traffic Portal, the self-service machines operate 24 hours a day and are designed to give motorists another way to access vehicle licensing services outside conventional traffic offices.
What Can You Do at Egypt’s Self-Service Traffic Kiosks?
The machines currently provide several commonly requested vehicle-related services, including:
- Renewing a vehicle license
- Requesting a replacement for a lost vehicle license
- Requesting a replacement for a damaged vehicle license
The service is designed primarily to reduce the time motorists spend completing routine paperwork and limit the need to visit a traffic licensing unit for eligible transactions.
Reports citing the Traffic Portal say eligible vehicle-license renewals through the machines can be completed in around two minutes, depending on the transaction and the motorist’s status.
How Do the Self-Service Vehicle License Kiosks Work?
The process begins by identifying the vehicle owner electronically.
Motorists enter their national ID number and mobile number, then receive an OTP verification code. After verification, the user selects the relevant vehicle and chooses from the available services, such as renewal or replacement of a lost or damaged license.
Users can then accept the service terms and select the required licensing period, where applicable.
The system is intended to make routine vehicle licensing more similar to other automated government services, reducing paperwork and making transactions available beyond standard traffic-unit working hours.
Where Are the Vehicle License Kiosks Located?
Self-service traffic machines have been deployed at several busy locations across Greater Cairo and Alexandria.
Reported locations include City Centre Almaza, Citystars, Mall of Egypt, Cairo Festival City, Arkan Plaza and Mall of Arabia.
Machines are also available at Gezira Youth Center, Heliopolis Sporting Club, Maadi Sporting Club and Sporting Club in Alexandria. A mobile self-service vehicle has also operated on the North Coast.
Because the network is continuing to develop, motorists should check the Egypt Traffic Portal for the latest available services and locations before travelling.
Who Can Renew a Vehicle License Online?
Not every vehicle or transaction can necessarily be completed entirely through the digital system.
According to the official Egypt Traffic Portal’s online renewal conditions, eligible vehicles generally include private cars and motorcycles with engines below 2,030 cc.
The vehicle owner must also settle applicable fees, traffic violations and compulsory insurance before renewal can be completed. Cases requiring a technical inspection, involving a sale restriction, or lacking an electronic RFID sticker may require additional procedures and may not qualify for the full remote process.
That means the self-service kiosks are particularly useful for straightforward renewals where the vehicle does not require additional inspection or administrative review.
Egypt Is Also Simplifying Traffic Units
The self-service kiosk expansion is happening alongside a broader overhaul of Egypt’s vehicle and driving-license procedures.
Beginning October 1, 2026, the Ministry of Interior started trialing a single-window electronic payment system across traffic units nationwide.
Under the new arrangement, motorists pay the published fee for their service through one electronic collection point rather than moving between several payment windows. The ministry also said no additional amounts should be collected during licensing procedures apart from officially recorded traffic violations.
The new procedures also removed the requirement to present a fire extinguisher, first-aid kit and reflective warning triangle when issuing or renewing licenses.
Together, the single-window system and self-service kiosks represent a wider effort to reduce paperwork, waiting times and administrative steps associated with vehicle licensing.
Why the Self-Service Kiosks Matter
Vehicle licensing has traditionally required motorists to visit a traffic unit during working hours and complete several administrative stages.
Moving routine services to automated kiosks gives eligible motorists more flexibility, particularly when machines are placed inside malls and clubs that people already visit regularly.
The Ministry of Interior says the expansion is part of its strategy to use modern technology to improve public services, reduce congestion inside traffic units and make government transactions quicker and more accessible.
The official Traffic Portal also continues to offer online services including vehicle-license renewal, replacement of lost or damaged licenses, traffic-violation inquiries, appointment booking and other vehicle-related procedures.
Vehicle Licensing in Egypt Is Becoming More Digital
The introduction and expansion of self-service kiosks signals another step toward digitizing one of Egypt’s most frequently used government services.
For motorists with eligible vehicles, services that once required a dedicated trip to a traffic unit can increasingly be handled online or through automated machines located in everyday destinations such as malls and clubs.
With self-service kiosks operating around the clock and the new single-window system now being tested nationwide, Egypt is gradually moving toward a faster and more streamlined vehicle-licensing experience.
