Egypt Offers Students 60% Off Capital Train Subscriptions

Students in Egypt will receive a massive 60% discount on subscriptions for the Light Rail Transit (LRT), commonly known as the Capital Train. The initiative, announced by RATP Dev Mobility Cairo, the French company responsible for operating the line, aims to significantly reduce commuting costs for youth heading into the new academic year.

The reduced fares apply to all students enrolled in public and private schools as well as universities. Eligible passengers can choose between one-month or three-month subscription plans, offering flexibility for varying academic schedules.

By heavily subsidizing these fares, the operating company is working to ease the financial burden on families while encouraging the use of sustainable, mass-transit connections between Cairo and its newly developed eastern cities.

A Tiered Pricing Structure

The discounted subscriptions are structured based on the number of stations a student uses during their regular commute.

For a one-month subscription, students will pay 240 EGP for trips covering up to three stations. The cost rises to 360 EGP for journeys spanning up to seven stations, and caps at 480 EGP for commutes exceeding seven stations.

The three-month subscription plans follow the exact same 60% discount framework. Students can secure a quarterly pass for 720 EGP for up to three stations, 1,080 EGP for up to seven stations, or 1,440 EGP for trips passing more than seven stations.

Streamlined Application Process

To accommodate the expected high demand, RATP Dev Mobility Cairo has designated specific transit hubs for processing the new student passes.

Students can finalize their paperwork at dedicated subscription offices located within major Capital Train hubs, specifically the Adly Mansour, Badr, and Arts and Culture City stations.

To further streamline the process and prevent overcrowding, subscription forms are also available at any ticket or subscription office along the Cairo Metro’s Green Line (Line 3). Applicants are required to provide their official data and documentation proving their active educational enrollment to qualify.

Connecting Students to Emerging Cities

The Capital Train serves as a vital transportation artery linking Cairo’s traditional districts with the rapidly expanding urban communities to the east.

The electric rail network connects key residential and administrative hubs along its route to the New Administrative Capital. As more universities and educational institutions open sprawling campuses in these new urban zones, reliable and affordable transit has become a top priority for students and their families.

By slashing transit costs by more than half, this initiative not only alleviates daily transit expenses but also accelerates the successful integration of Egypt’s newest cities into the daily routines of its younger generations.
