Egyptian pharmacist Dr. Wael Ali has made history as the first pharmacist from Egypt to receive a Fellowship from the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), one of the global organization’s major professional honors.
Ali was named among 13 new FIP Fellows for 2026 during the opening of the 84th FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Montreal, Canada, on August 30. His selection places him alongside pharmacy professionals from countries including the UAE, United States, Ireland, Australia, Brazil, Uruguay and the United Kingdom.
The recognition marks a significant milestone for Egyptian pharmacy and reflects Ali’s years of work in professional leadership, pharmacy development and international healthcare cooperation.
What Is the FIP Fellowship?
The International Pharmaceutical Federation Fellowship, commonly known as the FIP Fellowship, recognizes FIP members who have demonstrated strong international leadership and distinguished themselves in pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical education or pharmaceutical sciences.
According to FIP, recipients must also have contributed to advancing the pharmacy profession and served the federation through their professional work.
Those who receive the fellowship are entitled to use the professional designation FFIP after their names.

Ali was one of just 13 professionals worldwide named as FIP Fellows in the 2026 class.
The full group included Abeer Al Ghananeem from the UAE, Leticia Caligaris from Uruguay, Matthew Cherian and Linda Garrelts MacLean from the United States, Paul Gallagher from Ireland, John Jackson and Michael Ward from Australia, Igor Linhares de Castro and Silvana Nair Leite from Brazil, Veronika Seda from Australia, Tracey Thornley from the UK and Carlos Lucava from Uruguay.
Ali’s inclusion makes him the first Egyptian pharmacist to receive the fellowship, according to Egyptian reports covering the announcement.

Ali already holds a prominent position within FIP’s regional structure.
He serves as President of the FIP Eastern Mediterranean Regional Pharmaceutical Forum, which works across countries in the region on issues including workforce development, people-centered care, antimicrobial stewardship, communicable diseases and digital health.
FIP’s official 2026 congress program also listed Ali as the representative presenting the Eastern Mediterranean forum’s major projects and priorities during a session bringing together the federation’s regional pharmaceutical forums.
