Egypt secured qualification to the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 after a dramatic 1–1 draw with Iran at Seattle Stadium.
The Pharaohs made a perfect start, taking the lead inside the opening five minutes through Mahmoud Saber, who finished from close range after Mohamed Salah’s effort caused confusion in the Iranian box.
Iran responded quickly, equalising in the 14th minute through Milad Mohammadi after following up on a saved attempt and firing home to bring the match level.
The game remained tense until the final moments, with Iran thinking they had scored a late winner through Shoja Khalilzadeh in stoppage time, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
The result was enough for Egypt to finish second in Group G and qualify for the knockout stage for the first time. The Pharaohs will now face Australia in the Round of 32 at Dallas Stadium on July 3.
