President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has congratulated Egypt’s national football team following its historic 3–1 victory over New Zealand at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a result that secured the Pharaohs’ first-ever win in the tournament.
In a message shared on social media, President El Sisi praised the players and technical staff for their determination, describing the achievement as a proud moment for Egypt and its people.
“I congratulate our national team and our great people on achieving the first victory in our history at the World Cup,” the President said, commending the team’s performance and fighting spirit.
The President added that the victory reflects the ambition, resilience, and determination of Egypt’s players and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to continue its successful journey in the tournament and represent the country with pride on the global stage.
Egypt’s landmark victory came after a memorable comeback performance against New Zealand. Mohamed Ziko equalised in the 59th minute before captain Mohamed Salah put the Pharaohs ahead in the 67th minute. Mahmoud Hassan “Trézéguet” sealed the historic win with a third goal in the 82nd minute.
The result not only delivered Egypt’s first World Cup victory but also moved the Pharaohs to the top of Group G, fuelling hopes of a place in the knockout stages and sparking celebrations among Egyptian fans around the world.
